My Young Friends have never had the chance to vote for any president of their own, only against Trump. The politicians up for election tonight do not represent the superior moral virtues that my Young Friends embody. They have encouraged me to be more open-minded and to not lose my curiosity. They trained me to stop calling things "retarded." They gave me support, let me in, and did not ridicule me for my weirdness and quirks. My Young Friends actually read the books I recommend sometimes, and for that, they are much better friends than some of my older ones.
My Young Friends have not been married for years with kids or built a career and have not yet become frustrated by adulthood's limits. There are no significant regrets in their review mirrors. Not that they have not seen hardship and sorrow, but they have not had to rebuild their lives from a fit of self-imposed destruction. Unlike me, they are not looking for second or third, or fourth chances. They are still begging to be heard for the first time, to have their moment to hold the reigns of a society that is rightfully theirs to steer. My Young Friends are working their way through academia while working two jobs in retail. They do this while jumping through hoops set up by older tenured calcified minds who refuse to step outside of their own specialties. My Young Friends understand the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and despise that this is stressed to them by the Old People who don't honestly believe in the endeavor.
My Young Friends haven't yet had the chance to fix the problems caused by the Old People. The Old People that have installed and perpetuated our theocratic oligarchy. They haunt the vote with their nostalgia. The computer scientist Charles Isbell once stated that the best music was made when you were fourteen, no matter your era. Old People believe the same about government, social structure, the correct places of white and colored folk. They refuse to let go and die. In relation to nature, man's position is that of dominance instead of coexistence according to the Old People. My Young Fiends understand that this type of thinking will lead to the destruction of all. They know that it is unfair that the Old People have gotten to live a full life and shape their society while the young will only be able to shape their future and persist to the degree that planet Earth is fixable. The shit of the Old People is the inheritance of my Young Friends.
Apologies to my Young Friends. I am sorry for not trying harder and earlier, understanding deeper and sooner, or screaming louder and smarter about these issues. I have never had a platform, but I am also sorry for not building one. I should have read more, faster, when I was young like them.
Having kids of my own made me realize the importance of giving everything we have to the next generation. We cannot continue to compete with our progeny; all of nature has evolved to make sure the adult does not interfere with the young. Disperse like the fern! If we cannot disperse, morph like the caterpillar! If we cannot morph, then for the love of our children and the future of humanity, die like the salmon! A billion dollars made today is a billion stolen from our grandchildren. My Young Friends understand this; the Old People either do not or understand but do not give a fuck. Old People fundamentally do not comprehend, and therefore cannot value, evolution.
Dearest Young Friends: Please do not lose hope, and don't let the Old People control you. This is your world and your future. It is being stolen by people who have no stake in it. There are no rules except those made by people not worth listening to any longer. Break the rules and build a better world for yourselves.
